Like the prototypical DCSD High Schools (4,5,6) built before it, Rock Canyon (7) was master planned to accommodate 400 more students through an addition to bring the design capacity up to 2000 students.
However, unlike the previous pod additions for the other prototypical high schools, Rock Canyon was designed to address Career and Technology programs that equip students for immediate employment directly following high school graduation, or provide the option to also earn college credit while earning their high school diploma.
In addition to general classrooms and science rooms, Rock Canyon’s expansion accommodated the following specialized programs:
- Digital Media – Audio Video Production.
- Pre-Engineering – Robotics, CNC Machining and Programming.
- Construction Technology – Plan Reading, coordination with various trades, and development of carpentry skills.
- Computer Graphics – Development of CADD and other graphic technologies.
- Business / Entrepreneurship– As an adjunct to the above programs, student can study how to develop a business in the above career fields.
